Editor’s Choice: Amish Heavy-Duty Cedar-Stain Swing

It can be difficult for consumers to find porch swings that are not only reasonably priced but are made durable enough that they will hold up to heavy use. Some swings are well-built but cost a fortune, while others are inexpensive, but aren’t well made. Fortunately, this model ticks off both the reasonably priced box and the well-made box. This is a swing that our readers are definitely going to want to check out.

This porch swing is manufactured in the United States using authentic Amish craftsmanship. Why should the consumer care about this fact? Well, they should care because it means that this swing was built by craftsmen who pay attention to detail and are known for creating quality products. Let’s examine this one and see just how it meets those high expectations.

This product is made from pressure-treated pine that’s been kiln-dried and finished using a soy-based cedar tone stain. It’s a product that has slats that are properly routered, so they don’t have sharp edges and are put together using high-quality hardware. This product is approximately 51-inches wide, 27-inches deep, and 21-inches high. It has a seat that’s 46x19x19-inches and comes with enough chain that it can be hung from an 8-foot ceiling. On the sides of this swing are equipped cup holders that allow the consumer to place their drink while they’re swinging on their porch.

This product has a very traditional porch swing look to it, but what sets it apart from other models is that it’s a heavy-duty swing. This swing is capable of holding up to 800 pounds of weight without a problem. In our eyes, that makes this one of the best porch swings available.

Although we reviewed the model that used pine wood with a cedar stain, this porch swing is also made in a number of other styles. Consumers can choose a swing with a dark walnut stain, one with a black stain, or one that’s unfinished. All of them are built using the exact same standards, so the consumer can rest assured they’re getting a quality product that will last them a long time.

PROS:

  • Made using real Amish workmanship.
  • It’s made out of heavy-duty wood.
  • It can hold up to 800-pounds.
  • It comes with cup holders.
CONS:

  • None, that we’ve noticed.

Also Recommended: Highwood Lehigh 4-Foot Swing

Another product that’s American made and is designed according to strict standards of excellence in this porch swing from Highwood. This product isn’t made using Amish standards, but it is one that’s well-built, will hold approximately 500 pounds of weight, and is backed by a 12-year limited warranty from the manufacturer. That makes it a product that’s well worth investigating, so let’s take a closer look at this product.

One of the first things that we’d like to say about this product is that it isn’t made out of real wood, but it does have a real wood look to it. Instead, it’s made out of recycled plastics—which makes it an eco-friendly product to consider. This material is manufactured with a built-in UV protector that helps to ensure that the product won’t fade over time. This is a product that’s effectively weather-resistant as well, and can be left outdoors all year long—it doesn’t matter if it’s raining, snowy, sleeting, or is simply a sunny day.

This product is manufactured in Hometown, Pennsylvania, and is approximately52-inches wide, 22-inches high, and 24-inches deep. It’s a swing that comes with a zinc-plated steel chain that is ready to hand and will provide the support the consumer needs while they’re sitting in it. Because of the way that this product is made, it naturally repels dirt and grime, so the consumer merely has to wipe it down to keep it looking good as new.

The last thing that we’d like to talk about is that this product is extremely easy to assemble. It comes partially assembled so the consumer can probably put it together and hang it in about an hour—maybe just a little longer if the consumer isn’t well-versed in assembling furniture. It’s also worth mentioning that this product also costs more than comparable porch swings, which might put off some people who are considering buying it.

PROS:

  • This product is made from recycled plastics.
  • It has a 500-pound weight capacity.
  • It’s backed by a 12-year limited warranty.
CONS:

  • This product is a little bit expensive.

Also Consider: Cambridge Casual Bentley Porch Swing

The last porch swing that we’re going to review is this one from Cambridge Casual. Although this product isn’t as well made as the two other swings we’ve reviewed and can be a pain to assemble, it is a product that’s available for a more than reasonable budget price. It’s also a product that’s available in natural brown, white, or black.

This product is approximately 52-inches wide, 24.5-inches deep, and 22-inches high. It has a seat that’s 55.75-inches wide, and is19.75-inches deep. It also comes with a 57-inch chain that allows it to be hung fairly easily once the consumer has fully assembled it. Assembly can be a bit of a problem, however, especially since sometimes the pre-drilled holes haven’t been drilled all the way through.

This product is supposed to have a 500-pound weight capacity, although we do have to say that we’re unsure of whether it will actually support that much weight. We think that it probably would, but we haven’t tested that assertion. This is a product that’s made out of solid mahogany wood and has a classic design that makes it similar to other porch swings we’ve seen.

All things considered, we think that this is a nice looking porch swing. It has a nice style to it and looks good when it’s finally installed. Sure, it’s not without its problems, but considering everything, we do think that it’s a budget model that some consumers are going to want to think about—especially if they’re trying to save a little bit of money.

PROS:

  • This is an inexpensive porch swing.
  • It has a 500-pounds weight capacity.
  • It’s a nice looking product.
CONS:

  • This product is difficult to assemble.
  • It’s not as well-built as the other models we’ve reviewed.

Tips On Buying The Best Porch Swings

Because people’s lives have become busier and people are spending an increasingly large amount of time interacting with technology instead of friends and family, it’s only natural for people to think about how they can reconnect with people. And one of the best ways that we’ve found of doing that is by sitting in a porch swing with our loved ones and just spending the time chatting about our days.

Of course, before the consumer can connect with friends and family on their new porch swing, they first have to purchase one. And that can be a little bit more difficult than some people have anticipated. After all, there are a variety of different models out there consumers have a lot to think about before they purchase one.

That’s why we’ve decided to not only review the best porch swings around but also write a guide on what people should look for when they’re buying one. This is the buying guide we wrote, and one that we hope will guide consumers to a model that suits their needs well. With that being said, let’s get this guide started with the most obvious suggestions and then working our way out to the less obvious suggestions that we think many people miss when they purchase a new porch swing.

Think About Who Manufacturers The Swing

We think that everyone should start their porch swing buying expedition by familiarizing themselves with some of the furniture companies that are known for making quality furniture. There are a number of companies that are known for making quality furniture, and then there are lesser-known companies that don’t have the same reputation. Whenever possible, the consumer should try to deal with the furniture companies that make quality products and try to avoid the companies that aren’t.

Think About Personal Style

Something else that the consumer should factor into their porch swing buying decision is their personal style. Do they need a traditional style swing or do they want to purchase one that has a more modern appeal? Do they want a swing with straight boards or ones with curved boards? All of these are questions that the consumer should seriously think about before they purchase their next porch swing.

Think About What It’s Made From

The next thing that the consumer should think about is what the swing is made of. In the past, consumers didn’t have a lot of choices when it came to porch swings, so they ended up with either a vinyl one or one made of wood. Nowadays, however, the consumer has a lot more options available to them. There are swings made out of vinyl, metal, wood, and even recycled plastics. If the consumer chooses a wood model, they should make sure that it’s treated with a non-toxic stain or paint.

Think About The Swing’s Size

The consumer is also going to want to make sure that they choose the right size porch swing for their needs. Most of these swings are available in four or five-foot sizes, but some are also swings made that fall on either side of this size range. The size of the swing is going to determine how much room the consumer has to sit, as well as how much they pay for the swing.

Think About The Swing’s Price

Another thing that should be discussed is the price of the porch swing. The consumer is going to want to make sure that it fits in their budget but has the features they need. Higher-priced models tend to last longer and have more features than budget models, but that isn’t always the case. The consumer should make sure to weigh the reputation of the manufacturer, the features the swing has, the size of the swing, and its style against its price. That’s the best way for the consumer to make sure they’re getting a good deal.

Additional Features To Consider

Before we end this guide, we would like to take the time and talk about some other potential options the consumer might want to think about. Although the below features aren’t as important as the ones above we’ve discussed, they are worth thinking about. They will determine just how happy the consumer is going to be with their purchase. Now that we’ve said that, let’s take a quick look at these features and then end this guide.

  • Included Mountain Hardware (Screws & The Chain)
  • The Color Of The Swing
  • The Weight Capacity Of The Swing
  • Whether It Has Included Accessories Such As Cup Holders
  • Whether It’s UV & Weather-Resistant
