Editor’s Choice: Rubbermaid 7X7 Weather-Resistant Resin Shed

The first outdoor storage shed that we’d like to review is this one from Rubbermaid. It’s a 7×7-foot weather-resistant shed that will help all of our readers store the gear they need to stow. It doesn’t matter if they’re looking for a place to keep a few rakes or shovels, or for storing their ride-on lawnmower, this shed is going to serve them quite well.

This shed will take two people approximately two hours to put together—longer if an individual is trying to put it together themselves. Once it’s set up, it’s extremely durable thanks to its double-wall construction that seems to resist leaks, dents, and weather extremely well. It’s also a shed that holds its own against the wind—although the consumer might have to anchor it down to keep it from blowing away in strong winds.

Inside of this shed, the consumer will find a full 332 cubic feet of storage space. This is large enough to suit the needs of most people. It also features a utility and handle hook, and has two windows. It also uses a wall-anchor system that allows the consumer to hook up pegboards or shelving to further customize it to fit their needs.

Even though a lock doesn’t ship with this shed, the consumer can buy a lock separately to add some security to it. If there’s one problem that we had with this shed, it’s the fact that it costs more than any of the other outdoor storage sheds available. And for some people that might be the deciding factor whether or not they want this shed.

Keeping all of this in mind, we do have to say that we think that this is the best outdoor storage shed available. It’s spacious, durable, and customizable enough to allow the consumer to store just about anything they want to store in it. All in all, it’s a great product.

PROS:

  • This shed is extremely durable and well made.
  • It has plenty of storage space.
  • It has a nice design and fits in with just about any decor.
CONS:

  • This product costs a little more than other sheds.

Also Recommended: Rubbermaid Roughneck Small Garden Shed

The next outdoor storage shed isn’t as large as the one at our number one position. No, it’s only 5×2-feet in size, and that either makes it the perfect size for some people or too small for other people. This shed isn’t large enough to hold a riding lower, or even a push mower. It won’t even hold a wheelbarrow. It’s only large enough to provide the consumer with 53 cubic feet of storage space. Enough space for large trash cans, ladders, and assorted patio gear.

Regardless of its small size, however, this is a great storage shed. It’s made out of high-quality resin and has a durable double-wall construction that makes it very strong. It’s strong enough to resist rain, sun, hail, or just about anything that mother nature tosses its way. Sure, if the consumer lives in a particularly windy area they might have to worry about it blowing over, but that can be taken care of by securing it into place.

Because of how well this outdoor storage shed is made, it won’t rust or rot like some other garden sheds. It’s a product that’s easy to maintain and should provide the consumer with years of faithful service. It’s also a product that has a latching mechanism on it that allows the consumer to place a lock they purchase separately on it for added security. Another thing we liked about this shed was that it can be customized. The consumer can purchase tool racks, accessory kits, and other kits separately to customize this shed to fit their needs.

Taking all of its features into consideration, it’s easy to see that this is one of the better outdoor storage sheds available. This might not be the largest one available, but it’s a good one for long tools such as shovels and rakes. We think a lot of our readers would get good use out of it if they set it up in their backyard or garden.

PROS:

  • This is a good size outdoor storage shed.
  • It’s rust and rot-resistant.
  • It has a nice design that looks great just about anywhere.
CONS:

  • This shed is smaller than other comparable garden sheds.

Also Consider: Lifetime Vertical 51-Cubic Storage Shed

The last outdoor storage shed we’d like to talk about is this one from Lifetime. This is a vertical shed that is approximately 27.5-inches by 53.6-inches by 67.7-inches in size. It has interior dimensions of 25.7-inches by 52.1-inches by 65-inches. That gives it a full 51.25 cubic feet of storage space—which is a decent amount of storage space to store everything but mowers of any type.

Because this is a vertical shed, it’s great for storing racks, shovels, cans of gas, leaf blowers, or just about any other small work tools the consumer wants to store. It’s not suited for storing riding or push mowers, wheelbarrows, or other such tools. If the consumer needs to store those items, they are going to have to search for another outdoor storage shed.

What we do like about this product, however, is that it has two 30×10-inch adjustable shelves that allow the consumer to store flowerpots or other such gear. This shed also features a padlock loop so that the consumer can add their own padlock to it for added security. We also like the fact that this shed is extremely durable and is made from an impact-resistant material that’s resistant to UV-fading and is designed to provide the consumer with years of faithful service.

We also thought that this was a good looking shed that will fit in with just about anyone’s décor. It has a neutral beige color that doesn’t stand out but is easy to keep clean. We also like the fact that it doesn’t have too big of a price-tag. It’s priced reasonably enough that just about anyone can afford it. It’s for all of these reasons why we’ve decided to place this shed on our list.

PROS:

  • This is a well-made outdoor storage shed.
  • It’s extremely durable.
  • It looks very nice and doesn’t have a large footprint.
CONS:

  • This shed is only 51 cubic feet in size.

A Guide To Purchasing Outdoor Storage Sheds

We know that not everyone will find the outdoor sheds that we reviewed to be suitable for them, so we decided to add this guide to help consumers find the sheds that are perfect for their own needs. We know that people are all looking for sheds in different colors, sizes, and styles, so hopefully this guide will help steer our readers to the models that they need for their backyard or garden. Let’s take a look at some of the things that our readers are going to want to consider before they purchase their next outdoor storage shed.

Step One: Think About Storage Space Needed

One of the first things that the consumer is going to want to think about is the size of storage shed they want. Sheds come in a variety of sizes—from models that are only big enough to handle long-handled tools to larger sheds that can handle several riding mowers. It’s up to the consumer to think about what they might store in their new storage shed and how much space they’re going to need.

Sheds that are around 50 square feet are generally considered to be small and only suitable for long-handled tools, flowerpots, plastic storage bins, and the like. Sheds that are larger than 250 square-feet are generally suitable for things such as riding or push mowers and wheelbarrows. Of course, it will depend on the shape of the shed as well. Vertical sheds are less likely to hold mowers than square or rectangular models.

Step Two: Think About The Shed’s Footprint

The footprint of the shed is the amount of space that it takes up in a backyard or garden. In other words, it’s the exterior dimensions of the shed. While the tendency for people to go big or go home can leave them with plenty of interior storage space, it can also mean that the shed takes up a lot of exterior space. That’s why it’s important for the consumer to think about whether a particular shed is even going to fit in the space they have available in their garden or backyard.

Step Three: Think About The Outdoor Shed’s Construction

The next thing that the consumer is going to want to think about is how the outdoor storage shed is constructed. Nowadays, these sheds are made out of a variety of different materials. These materials include wood, aluminum, steel, and various resin compounds. Let’s take a brief few moments to talk about some of these materials before moving on to our next point.

Wood is a good material that has a classic look, but it does need to be regularly stained or painted to ensure that it doesn’t begin to rot. Steel is another great material that is very durable, but it tends to be heavy and it needs to have some sort of coating to prevent it from rusting.

Aluminum is another durable material that’s very light. Aluminum won’t rust or corrode like untreated steel, but it might bend or be prone to damage from hail. In our opinion, the best choice for outdoor storage sheds are sheds made out of resins. They’re durable and lightweight, won’t rust or rot, and can handle hail without incurring much damage.

Step Four: Think About The Shed’s Style

Another thing that the consumer might want to think about is the shed’s style. After all, they don’t want to put up a shed that stands out like a sore thumb and conflicts with all of the hard work they’ve put into making their backyard look the way they want it to look. In most cases, the consumer is going to want to buy an outdoor storage shed that’s neutral in color: such as white or beige.

Of course, if the consumer does opt to buy a gaudier color for their storage shed, they can still help it to blend in with the rest of their landscape. They can do this by planting garden beds around the perimeter of the shed, or maybe grape vines along the sides. Both of these tricks will help the storage shed to blend into an outdoor area better.

Step Five: Consider Some Additional Features

In this section, we’re going to list all of the rest of the things that our readers are going to want to think about before they purchase the best outdoor storage shed for their needs. The following are points that we didn’t have enough space or time to get to but are important for our readers to consider before they purchase their next shed. Let us have a brief look at them before we draw this guide to its inevitable end.

  • Installation Difficulty
  • The Shape Of The Shed
  • Whether It Can Be Customized
  • Whether It Has Shelves
  • Whether It Has Windows
